6 Habits of Successful Entrepreneurs

The majority of new businesses fail. If you want to see your business succeed and avoid being just another statistic, it’s a good idea to look at what makes businesses succeed – and model it. To get you started, here are six habits of successful entrepreneurs.

  1. They follow a daily routine

Successful entrepreneurs wake up knowing exactly what they’re going to get done that day. If you’re constantly acting on impulse and making it up as you go along, you’re unlikely to get far. Try following a set morning routine for a few weeks. Start your morning with activities that will set you up for a productive, organised and energised day ahead.

  1. They show up every day

For a business to succeed, consistency is key. Successful entrepreneurs show up every day. They are consistent in the pursuit of achieving their dreams, and don’t let procrastination get in the way. For a business to succeed, you must be willing to consistently put in work, especially in the first few years.

  1. They act according to their values.

It is not enough to state your values. If you want to become a successful entrepreneur, you must also make sure you’re living in alignment with your values.

For example, the majority of business owners say sustainability matters to them – but not many are acting on it. Did you know, 50% of the waste produced by businesses is composed of paper. If you say something is important to you in your branding, make sure you act on it (e.g. by reducing the use of paper in your business to be more sustainable).

  1. They make time for themselves.

Showing up every day doesn’t mean sacrificing everything else in your life. In fact, successful entrepreneurs have strong boundaries between work and play.

They’re consistent and put in the work when it matters, but they also know when to take time out for themselves. When you’re running your own business, your health and wellbeing are important. Make time to keep yourself in good shape. Your business will suffer if you let your health go.

  1. They embrace failure.

Many people don’t act because they’re scared to fail. Successful entrepreneurs know this mindset is harmful to business.

The reality is, you’re probably going to fail at some point. Embrace it. Each failure is an opportunity to learn and to do better next time. Just make sure you apply the lesson, and don’t wallow in self-pity for too long.

  1. They ask for help when they need it.

Finally, successful entrepreneurs know when to work with others. Running a business on your own is hard work and you might lack the time and expertise to do it all yourself.

Successful entrepreneurs are able to look at their business objectively and highlight any weaknesses they need help with. For example, they might hire a PA to help them become more organised or work with an accountant to manage their finances more effectively. Whatever you decide to ask for help with, know it isn’t a sign of weakness. The ability to delegate is one of the most important skills for a successful entrepreneur.
