The Seeedstars world competition is the world’s largest startup competition in its emerging markets. It takes place in more than 75 countries globally. Annually it selects national winners from all over the world and brings them together at the Seedstars summit in Switzerland. This year it is set to hold competitions in 29 African countries- including Sierra Leone and Cape Verde for the first time.

We are looking for the best,” said Claudia Makadristo, regional manager for Africa at Seedstars.

Companies need to have raised less than $500000 in funding and create a minimum viable product preferably with existing traction. It is also important to note that the startup should have potential to have regional and global scalability.
Companies stand a chance to win $500,000 in equity investment, access to Seedstars investment readiness programme and other prizes. It might just be the biggest breakthrough your business needs.
This years’ experience is set to be different from other years. The boot camps are set to be held before each local event for up to 30 pre-selected startups.
Meanwhile the $100 million Seedstars Africa investment fund will be active later this year, all applicants are eligible to receive early stage investment and the funds will also cater to alumni startups from previous years.
Last year’s local winners were the Bluewave .An insurance startup that creates innovative mass market, micro insurance products accessible via mobile devices.
Other amazing startups that got to be realized by the Seedstars world competition include the Ghanaian Agritech Cowtribe. This is Africa’s first last mile animal vaccine delivery platform. And the Rwandan fintech Benefactors,, providing tailored working capital solutions to firms.
The Seedstars world competition for startups has been able to connect entrepreneurs to global experts, mentors and investors. The competitions are providing a great investment opportunity for young entrepreneurs, with little or no investments.This in-turn leads to more job opportunities and growth of the African economy.
