Social Media Week Independent Nairobi (SMWi) kicked off yesterday 12th September 2016 with events taking place at the KICC and Strathmore School. The Social Media Week is a global platform that connects people, content, and conversation around emerging trends in social and mobile media. Social Media Week Independent Nairobi, in its first year, brings together thousands of professionals in marketing, media and technology and is being hosted by, Go Gaga Experiential Limited.
The event that will take place from 12th to 17th September will provide a central stage for keynotes and panels, multiple rooms for workshops, master classes and presentations, and an area dedicated to co-working, networking and interactive events. The theme this year is their global theme: ‘The Invisible Hand: Hidden Forces of Technology (and How We Can Harness it for Good)’.
Social Media is mostly unregulated and a good number of people find themselves on the wrong side of the law for posting content that goes against the stipulated guidelines. Just yesterday, a guy lost his job for posting content that was suggestive to children and women abuse. This is a great time to learn the dos and the don’ts of social media to avoid facing the wrath of the so called online moral police.
This is a unique event that comes at a crucial time when Social Media is the in thing. But what we should be looking forward to learn from the whole event is how we can use Social Media to improve our brands, be it business or personal brands and most importantly using it for social advocacy.
